The Final Game

He’s been longing for this moment
As he waits at the base
“Send me home, Coach, I’m ready”
“It’s not your time, yet. Wait.”
The ball flew past the batter.
Strike one.
Grandpa tagged up.
“You’re time will come. You’ll save the game.”
“Coach, let me go.”
Strike two.
One last pitch. One last hit. One last chance.
“Now, is your time. “
Grandpa went home with the angels in the outfield.
The final call: Safe!
At home in the arms of the Father.
Good game, Grandpa, good game
You made the final roster

Dedicated to Grandpa Gene (5/24/24-6/1/09)
